Willys + Shinola Present Fall Style

In September 2015 had the opportunity to pull my favorite pieces from Willys' new fall arrivals, and style/document each look. Willys is Shinola’s sister-store located on West Canfield Street in Detroit. After shooting wardrobe around the city, I then presented my looks to a large audience.

Jordan wears tapered Levis 501s from the Levis Vintage collection (LVC), Steven Alan thick-ribbed sweater and grey plaid button up. What I love about the LVC is that they’re recreating patterns from their own archives and making replicas of vintage garments. Additionally, they’re using the same manufacturing techniques to the best of their abilities.

Paige is wearing Levis 501 CTs, black cashmere turtleneck by Ryan Roche, Apiece Apart oversized Vida coat, and the Sandrine bag by Clare Vivier. This wool floor-duster coat is absolutely at the top of my wish list. I’ve always been a huge fan of the statement coat and they’re standing out more than ever right now. Similar silhouettes have made appearances on the f/w 15 runways by designers like Dries Van Noten, Chanel and Calvin Klein. As for the turtleneck, I applaud Ryan Roche for her staple pieces. I can see myself wearing this sweater at least once a week with a different style pant, whether it’s a skinny or boyfriend jean or even a long flowy skirt. The Claire Vivier Sandrine bag reminds me of the Celine Trapeze bag when the top is unzipped. On the interior, you'll find a drop pocket and separated compartments to easily organize your essentials and an extended top zip for an extra roomy opening. Lastly, a quick fun fact about the 501 CTs Paige has on – these are from Levis’ new line, which is currently untitled. The brand wanted to offer cooler silhouettes from the LVC line that are more affordable. What’s interesting is that so many women were buying men’s 501s and tailoring them to fit their bodies. Definitely the perfect balance between a feminine and masculine fit.

Jordan is wearing a black Cover Cloth coat and twill otter green tote by Filson, Save Khaki burnt orange tee shirt and the Oliver pant by Steven Alan. I had to accessorize with this bag, because while it’s heavy and masculine, it can serve as your every day bag whether you’re male or female. For folks like me (i.e. always carrying a laptop, a camera, notebooks, a jacket and an extra pair of shoes) we’re always looking for a durable stylish bag that can carry everything our everyday purse can’t handle. My wishes have come true in the form of a Filson tote. My other favorite part about this look is the Save Khaki tee – its fabrics are washed and dyed to the point of natural broken-in comfort, so you never have to worry about it shrinking the first time you wash it! As for the bottoms, I dressed Jordan down by combining a tee shirt with khakis and Common Projects. If you have a pair of khakis in your closet then you’re all set for work and play.

Paige is wearing the Darcy dress and sunglasses by Steven Alan and denim Pollack jacket by Caron Callahan. The long silky dress reminds me of a slip dress, which was incredibly popular in the ‘90s and seems to be just as trendy now as it was then. I love how light and airy it not only looks, but feels! Want to transition into the winter? The truth is, it’s tough to look good in 7 inches of snow with winds that feel like tiny daggers against your skin. In that case, throw on a pair of denim jeans under the dress tucked into your favorite boots. I laughed at myself while I writing this thought, as my favorite look during my freshman year of High School was a flowy white wrap skirt over ripped up Abercrombie denim jeans and a vintage sea green tee. Rag & Bone presented similar looks throughout their f/w 15 collection. Who knew? In addition to bringing warmth to the look, you can noticeably tap into your grungy side. What I love about Caron Callahan, is she’s into slow fashion as opposed to fast fashion. For those who might not be familiar with fast fashion, think Zara, H&M or other brands racing to fill their stores with that week’s trend. They simply need fast production, which ultimately ends up in Bangladesh or Cambodia in unethical working conditions, BUT that’s a story for another day. What’s great about Caron is she only has a few accounts and she once she’s out of a product then she’s out for good. Also, the material is so soft you’ll find yourself throwing this coat over everything from sweaters to tank tops.

Jordan wears a Steven Alan suit and hat along with a Save Khaki white tee. This suit needs to be in every man’s wardrobe. At first I’m instantly attracted to the pattern alone, but then when I saw the pants have a drawstring at the waist I fell more in love. The material is super light, which is why you can get away with a button up and tie for work and then swapping those out for a tee and a cap to give a cooler more relaxed look. Also, good tailoring never goes out of style.

Paige wears the Shift dress by Steven Alan with a tie cape by Ryan Roche. I love this dress because while great for fall it’s still soft and light and can be worn anywhere from the office to a night out. Whether you want to wear a pair of heels, sneakers or flat sandals, you can make it work anywhere. I paired this dress with the Ryan Roche tie cape which is a really a must have in every woman’s closet for those perfect autumn days. The classic cape silhouettes are really in this season. The look I always fall back on is layered flowing dresses with long coats or capes for a witchy mysterious feel. And quite honestly, it makes for the most comfortable night out. What I love about Ryan Roche is the earthiness in her work. The neutral color palette she uses is inspired by her hometown of Idaho.

And last but not least…Paige wears the Demy Lee wool wrap skirt and Ryan Roche cream cashmere turtleneck. Demy Lee is known for its knitwear and the incredible weight of the fabrics. The pieces will never pill up or warp and lasts forever. This skirt would look awesome with a long chunky sweater as well. You might be wondering if this is the same turtleneck from the shot of Paige at the DIA, because yes it absolutely is. Head over to Willys and feel the shirt for yourself. You too will need this in every color.
